The best time to visit is sometime in the earlier morning hours, especially if you want to take the boat ride out to the Arizona Memorial. There is no “best day” to visit as itʻs quite a popular place throughout the week.
Hours of Operation: Pearl Harbor Visitor Center is open daily from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Pearl Harbor is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.
Tours are not offered each year on December 7th, as this day is reserved for ceremonies to honor the men and women who lost their lives during the attack.
The naming is actually pretty representative of what the area was known for. The population would harvest oysters with pearls. There were plenty of pearl oysters that lived in the bay and restoration efforts continue with the support of the Navy and the National Park.

Pearl Harbor is important for a lot of reasons. The military understood the value of a safe harbor in the middle of the Pacific.
To the visitor, the importance of the area is related to the historical national events that took place here. The national memorials, historical ships, planes, and boats that are housed here are an important part of our shared culture that we must respect and protect for future generations to learn from.
You will be visiting a place that is of sacred value to many people so please dress appropriately. There are no bathing suits allowed to be worn at Pearl Harbor.
For your safety and comfort, we recommend that you wear comfortable shoes and bring a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun throughout the day. Sometimes it does get cool in some areas and windy so a light jacket is good to have.
Visitors do enjoy Pearl Harbor on their own but when they go with a guide, they get a lot more out of the experience. On vacations, we tend to pack in as much as we can. Pearl Harbor is definitely on everyoneʻs list to see while on Oahu. If you only have a few days to enjoy everything then going with a local Hawaii expert provides a lot of value.
Bags such as purses and backpacks are not allowed inside of Pearl Harbor. If you are worried about the security of your belongings you may check your bags at the entrance to Pearl Harbor for $7.00 for each lockers.
Only camera lenses less than 6 inches are allowed. Please keep this in mind and plan accordingly if you plan on taking photographs.
